I spotted Honoré Daumier’s “At the Gallery Drouot” (1873) at the Corcoran Museum in DC two Sundays ago. It was a nice surprise. Daumier excels was representing casual social moments that people normally didn’t record in art, like sitting in a carriage, walking down the street, or buying things from the Drouot auction house in Paris.
