Sally Mann, “Immediate Family” (1992) From oscarraymundo, who submitted this photo:In 1992 photographer Sally Mann courted controversy after her exhibition featuring photos of her children - nude, bloody, and battered - as suggestive suicide tableaux. Some called it brilliant, while others viewed it as pornographic, exploitative, and harmful to the emotional development of Emmet, Jessie, and Virginia. When Emmet fell and his nose started bleeding, his mother immediately dashed to his side - to photograph him. Because Mann shot with a large-format camera, each sessions lasted longer than an hour. The black and white, youthful nude in the wilderness aesthetic went on to be imitated and hyper sexualized by the clothing brand, Abercrombie & Fitch.
