Robert Indiana Facing Multiple Headaches Over Sanskrit Love Works
A man claims that artist Robert Indiana signed a licensing agreement in 2007, affording him the right to create and sell the PREM version of the Pop artist’s much adored “LOVE” images — Prem means Love in Sanskrit.
According to the New York Post, John Gilbert initially paid Indiana $50,000 dollars for the rights. The artist later received an additional $50,000 in royalties. Nevertheless, Indiana had a change of heart, reneged on the deal, and is now claiming that Gilbert’s pieces are not authentic.
Now, MSNBC reports that the 83-year-old Indiana is being sued by a Monaco-based art dealer for renouncing the authenticity of sculptures once valued as high as $1 million.
