The Smoke and Mirrors Issue presents an idiosyncratic collection of photographs assembled to draw our attention to the fabricating hand at work. Illusion is an adaptive logic of escape, a detour from reality that employs deceptive clues, false emphasis, and symbolic meaning. The concept of Smoke and Mirrors is one that appeals to the human psyche because we want to believe in the impossible coming to pass and are at the same time transfixed by the means of our deception.
