Edward Ruscha, “Find Contact Lens at Bottom of Swimming Pool” (1975)
In other words, that moment of impossible tasks when being at the pool is no longer fun. Although, I also appreciate the ambiguity of the text — is this drawing illustrating that aggravating moment before it’s found (if at all), “find” as the task at hand, or is it the transcendent moment after, the present act of finding? Or perhaps the curious unexpected act of finding a contact lens found that wasn’t being searched for? The cryptic-ness of the text almost matches the difficulty of the action described.
