This unusual street art intervention in Berlin is sending the street art channels of the internet abuzz … and rightfully so. They’ve cleverly transformed an unusual urban space into an impressive work of art. The French group (called BaT ArT error) is obviously trying to fashion a revolutionary image for themselves and, if their collection of images & animated gifs on Photobucket is any indication, they seems to have manufactured their image by colliding fascist, communist, and early internet aesthetics … all with a healthy dose of Abu Ghraib imagery (hooded figure, anyone?). Their logo (posted here) combines the Batman logo, the French flag, the Old German script, and some other fonts. Seems pretty typical of the mash-ups we’ve come to expect in the internet age.
None of the material I’ve found on them is in English. Rebel:art has a short post in German. For a great photo of the bas-relief, check out Andrea Schultz’s pic here or see her whole Flickr set here.
