Aram Jibilian, “Portrait of Myself with My Imaginary Wife (with Fruit)” (2010)
Jibilian is a New York-based photographer who has been exploring the life and art of Armenian-American painter Arshile Gorky is a series called Akh Gorky.
As part of the series, Jibilian created masks based on a Gorky self-portrait and staged undocumented moments in the life of the artist. The images are digitally augmented.
The image, the artist says, is part of a series:

“The Portrait of Myself with My Imaginary Wife” images are based on Gorky’s synonymous painting. In the painting, Gorky’s wife hovers angelically above his tortured visage, as if only saying “I am here for you. I love you.” My wife in these photographs has something more to say.

You can see a larger selection of Akh Gorky in Ararat Magazine.
