New Banksy Works Pop Up in Greenpoint Overnight

Last night, three works by the infamous British street artist Banksy showed up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and the city’s street art scene have been clamoring to understand the meaning of these “sad clowns” that are spread around the north Brooklyn neighborhood.

We got clarification about our last post from RJ of Vandalog that the work was a Damien Hirst/Banksy collaboration.

An oldie but a goodie. A Banksy work spoofing Damien Hirst’s dot paintings during  the Banksy Versus Bristol Museum Summer Show in 2009.

Are we sure they’re not the same person? Hmmm…

UPDATE: The work was a COLLABORATION between Banksy and Hirst.

The newest addition to the UK’s Walker Art Gallery is a statue of a Priest “vandalised” by Banksy.

According to liverpoolmuseums.org.uk:

“The renowned graffiti artist has sawn off the face of an 18th Century replica stone bust and glued on a selection of bathroom tiles. The resulting ‘pixellated’ portrait is entitled ‘Cardinal Sin’ and is believed to be a comment on the abuse scandal in the Church and its subsequent cover-up.”

Most of the coverage featured closely cropped smiley faced riot police and the name “Banksy” screamed in the media coverage.
