New Art Spaces in the Bushwick Area, Part 1
The bewildering number of new galleries opening in Bushwick in late 2012 and early this year continues to grow (even while this article goes to press). The gallery counts now, depending on who you ask, are above 45. Growth seems to be nothing short of exponential as virtually every major studio building in every micro-neighborhood that’s part of Bushwick is now home to several artist-run exhibition spaces, and naturally, apartment shows abound. Here’s the first five on our list.

It was nearly impossible to walk through the maze of exhibitors at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival last Saturday without the siren song of some obscure zine or deliciously zany graphic novel luring you in to take it home. Check out 4 finds from the fest here.
Just 2 Weekends Left to Catch Brooklyn in Montreal
Montreal Brooklyn is an ongoing festival that celebrates the commonalities and contrasts of the two cities. There’s an excellent sense of energy in this exchange — both cities have hugely dynamic art scenes, and bringing them together helps everyone escape the bubble of individual art scenes. With just two weekends to go, this is a must-see. If you’re stuck in Brooklyn, worry not: Canada is coming here from January 10 to February 2, 2013.

David Byrne Creates New Bike Racks for Brooklyn Academy of Music
David Byrne, the Talking Heads frontman turned visual artist, noticed a problem with the bike racks at the popular culture venue BAM. “I get to BAM fairly often, and the existing racks are often full, so it’s great that there will now be more,” Byrne said.
The racks, which spell out “pink crown” and “micro lip,” are placed on either side of the main entrance at 30 Lafayette Avenue, though they will be changed as required (whatever that means).
His description of his concept for the racks is a little “who cares” IMHO but more bike racks is a good thing for everyone!
