Today, for New Year’s Eve, Google has compiled many of its favorite special occasion doodles from 2012 into one large doodle.
Art lovers will be interested to know that included in the scene are Juan Gris, Gustav Klimt, Auguste Rodin, Mies van der Rohe, and other creative personalities.
The image that identifies all the elements is via websonic.nl.
Google is honoring American artist and tv host Bob Ross with a doodle today. Ross was born on October 29, 1942.
There has been a small Bob Ross revival in the last few years, and just this past summer PBS released a Bob Ross Remix video on YouTube.
Artist Paolo Cirio has created street art works that capture moments — or “street ghosts” — from Google Streetview.

Today, Google salutes pioneering modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe on what would have been his 126th birthday.
Today’s choice seems a little random. Why choose some creative figures and why not others? What’s the process, you ask. Well, Google offers this explanation:
A group of Googlers regularly get together to decide the events and holidays that will receive doodles. The ideas for the doodles themselves are gathered from numerous sources including Googlers and the general public. The doodle selection process aims to celebrate interesting events and anniversaries that reflect Google’s personality and love for innovation. We are aware that the list of doodles is not exhaustive, but we try to select doodles that show creativity and innovation.

Today, Google marks the 113th birthday of American sculptor Alexander Calder with a doodle on its homepage, but it’s not just any doodle, according to CNet:
… [it] sways when a person tilts an accelerometer-equipped laptop. The Google doodle … tilts when a laptop tilts and slowly spins if a person clicks and drags on the sculpture. The swaying feature requires not just an accelerometer-equipped laptop but also a browser that can expose that information to a Web application. In my tests on a Mac this morning, that meant Chrome but not Safari or Firefox.
