Seemingly all of the United States was put into a fashion frenzy last week when it was brought to the media’s attention that the Ralph Lauren-designed uniforms for the 2012 US Summer Olympic team with their all-American flair (and hideous berets) were produced in China. From senators to civilians, everyone expressed opinions on the matter ranging from apathy to the demand that they be burned.

Stevie Famulari’s new Green Line series — currently on view at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota — has fashioned five “elegant” garments (an opera gown, an asymmetrical gown, a lawn coat, a wedding gown and a laced gown) that are seeded with living plants and will grow, change and reseed themselves over the course of their lifetimes.
The garments are lined with waterproof material and are completely wearable.

The Artist Behind the Light Installation at Tribeca Issey Miyake
Grimanesa Amorós’s work has always been a little too big — literally and conceptually speaking — to be confined within the barriers of a gallery. Her light sculptures have encroached upon the streets of New York City, encountering passersby, mesmerizing them with paper sculptures and the translucent spheres for which she has become known. Though Tribeca Issey Miyake is hardly a vast, open space typical of interventionist art, in her new installation at the Japanese designer’s boutique the sculptures certainly confront new viewers and easily mixes fashion and fine art.
